Mapping and monitoring Mediterranean wetlands: techniques, challenges and lessons learned
For wetland managers
January 21, 2022
This webinar is the 3rd of the series of online webinars that aim to stimulate knowledge sharing and managers’ participation while addressing various topics and challenges related to wetland conservation and management in the Mediterranean region.
The webinars are organized by MedWet under the MAVA OAP M3 project: “Disseminating knowledge and sharing experience for promoting wetlands conservation around the Mediterranean”.
The webinar, attended by 78 participants, explored the tools and approaches that have been used to secure the legal protection of the Greek island wetlands and how the Greek experience was replicated in all the islands of the Mediterranean Basin. The participants also learned how to better integrate Earth Observation data and tools to support national wetland inventories and reporting obligations, mainly the Ramsar Convention and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The sessions were led by three experts on wetland-related issues from the Mediterranean region:
- Anis GUELMAMI, Project Manager, Mediterranean Wetland Observatory (Tour du Valat)
- Thanos GIANNAKAKIS, Programme Manager, WWF Greece
- Flavio MONTI, Manager of the Scientific and Technical Network of MedWet.
